During 1988, I participated in an international health conference in Nicaragua. At the time, I was studying public health at UCLA and taking an ethnographic film course as part of my MA in Latin American Studies.

This footage was shot during a 5-day trip. I sent the video to 18 swing-vote U.S. congressmen before a major vote on renewed military aid to the contras who were trying to overthrow the Sandinista government. That vote failed, though I never heard from any of the congress-people.

The video eventually aired on WTTV, a PBS affiliate in Chicago.
