The Bachelorette Premiere: Jenn's Historic Journey Begins!

I haven't peeked at any spoilers for this season. Seriously, check the metadata on this Word document if you don't believe me. But I’m willing to bet my Emmys that Jenn will make history as the first Bachelorette to propose to her final guy. Has anyone checked if her final gown has a slit for a smooth knee drop? Just think about it: “No Bachelorette has ever done this before,” “Never thought I would,” “Done letting men dictate relationships.” By the end of the season, Jenn will be down on one knee, popping the question to… maybe not Sam M. (a.k.a. Good & Gather Tyler Cameron), but definitely someone tall. We’ll just have to wait and see.

If Jenn does propose to her F1, it’ll end the tradition of leads stopping the runner-up mid-kneel. Finally, no more begging for leads to take control of the process. It’s a win-win: a victory for feminism and for the dignity of some guy named Chaseley or something.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s night one, and we’re already breaking barriers! The first Asian American Bachelorette!!! Jenn moved two random Asian girls to tears in Boston Commons (which, based on my college experience near Boston, seems fitting). She’s going to make us proud! Plus, we have another key Vietnamese contestant, and if anything happens to him, I will not be okay. It’ll be fascinating to see how the show navigates Jenn’s identity and what role it will play this season, especially since she doesn’t have a narrative carryover from Joey’s season. Joey’s golden-retriever charm left every ladytestant feeling validated, which is emotionally satisfying but tough to build a new season around. Jenn, however, is bringing her own story of “past toxic relationships sun, emotionally withholding parents moon, cool girl rising” to the forefront. She’s wearing a dress that vaguely reminds me of Rachel Lindsay’s night-one gown, and she’s ready to flirt her little booty off.
