Thirteen hikers were rescued from a wildfire zone near Tahoe National Forest in Northern California’s Placer County on Monday.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office initiated a search after discovering their vehicles near the area where the Royal Fire started on Sunday afternoon.

A search-and-rescue helicopter located the group early Monday morning, and plans were made to hike them out with rescue crews.

The hikers, aged 16 to 20, had set out before the fire began, but were blocked by flames, prompting the rescue effort, ABC News has reported.
