Painting the American Flag on Sourdough with a 3D Twist! 🇺🇸

This quick tutorial will show you how to create an American flag design on your sourdough with a cool 3D effect!

Here’s what you’ll need:
* Small paint brushes
* Food coloring gel
* White food coloring
* Foil
* Olive oil

1. Sketch your design: Freehand it or use a template (search online!). Remember, the blue rectangle with stars goes in the top left corner.
2. Prep your paint: Mix a few drops of gel food coloring with a little white food coloring
3. Paint the blue rectangle first: This is the part of the flag with the stars (canton).
4. Stripes time! Carefully paint alternating red and white stripes.
5. Star power! Dip a toothpick in white paint and create small dots for the stars.
6. The 3D magic: Now for the cool part! Carefully score shallow lines around the flag design (not directly on it).
7. Time to bake: Preheat your oven to 450°F. Here’s the trick: Score a line around the flag except for the very left back side and bake for 5 minutes at 450 degrees.
8. Foil magic: After 5 minutes, carefully remove the sourdough from the oven. Using the original score line as a guide, slice around the flag design and underneath it to separate it from the rest of the loaf. Crumple a small piece of foil, drizzle it with olive oil, and carefully tuck it underneath the scored flag design. This will create a little pocket for the bread to rise, giving the flag a 3D pop!
9. Bake it up! Then continue to bake the sourdough for additional 25 minutes at 450°.
