Uber passenger witnesses bizarrely aggressive stop by police
An Uber passenger got a back row seat to a strange incident, when the Uber he’d just gotten into at Miami International Airport immediately got pulled over by the cops for ‘blocking traffic.’ The cop asked to see the driver’s license and registration, yet seemed oddly impatient.
Things came to a head when the driver pulled out his insurance details – a printout of a screenshot of an e-certificate, and the same on his phone. The cop, strangely unaware of the laws he was trying to enforce, aggressively told the driver that he required a physical copy of the insurance documents, despite electronic versions being perfectly legal in Florida (and 48 other states)
Miami-Dade Police confirmed the driver was detained but not arrested, likely because he hadn’t actually done anything. They have not, however, commented on what, if any, reprimand the cop will face for failing to enforce a law that he had made up.
