The Tanzanian government has been accused of putting the interests of rich Emirati hunters ahead of its own people.

According to media reports, since 2022, tens of thousands of Maasai people have been forcibly evicted, or are now at risk of eviction, from their ancestral land so that it can be used by members of the United Arab Emirates’ royal family for safari hunting.

The reports indicate that more than 500 square kilometres of historically Maasai land has been allocated to the Otterlo Business Corporation, a company that organises hunting safaris for members of the UAE royal family and other rich Emiratis.
