Man Shot After Advancing Towards Outagamie County Deputies With a Knife

Grand Chute, Wisconsin — On Friday, April 12, 2024, at approximately 5:56 p.m., deputies with the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash in the 2800 block of W. Prospect Avenue in the Town of Grand Chute. When they arrived, deputies observed 22-year-old William Jae Kil Nelson with a knife. Outagamie County Sheriff’s Deputy Noah Yeck, 1.5 years law enforcement service, attempted to use a taser on Nelson without success. Outagamie County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ellis Brooks, 10 years law enforcement service, discharged his firearm, striking Nelson. Life saving measures were performed. Nelson was transported to a local hospital and has since succumb to his injuries. No law enforcement officers, or other individuals were injured during the incident.
