Summer railfanning on the Long Island Railroad! Featuring the Cannonball express special!

Recorded on 7/5/24. I made sure to plan out my yearly railfanning goal of catching the Cannonball special on the Long Island Railroad every year at least once. Last summer when working for a summer camp, most of the camps were closed on Friday July 5th since many families and employees would be taking off for a long weekend. Since the Long Island Railroad ran their Friday schedule as usual, the 5th was the ideal day to venture out to Long Island to make our Cannonball trip. Boy was it worth it! We spent the first half of the day at Bethpage Station on the Ronkonkoma Branch. Bethpage was an interesting town since it had a beach town vibe to it despite it not being a beach town. We did see a Montauk Branch train at Bethpage since some of the Montauk Branch trains utilize the Central Branch which is just east of this station. After our time at Bethpage, we ventured out to the Islip Station on the Montauk Branch so we could see the Cannonball Express without making any gambles. The Cannonball usually utilizes the Babylon Branch, but for a safe bet, we saw it from an official Montauk Branch Station. At Islip, we catch our Cannonball train and get some good horns. A shout out to Retired Railfan Horn Guy for recommending Islip! This is a big railfanning video you will not want to miss! Enjoy!
