Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the central nervous system, typically transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected animal, most commonly dogs. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost invariably fatal, causing severe neurological symptoms such as agitation, hydrophobia (fear of water), and paralysis, leading ultimately to death. The disease has a long incubation period, but the onset of symptoms marks a grim prognosis.
