Rep. Jerry Nadler: "Vaccines don't necessarily prevent you from getting the disease but they do greatly reduce the seriousness of it if you get it?"
Dr. Andrew Pavia: "They do reduce your risk of getting infected but that far from perfect. So after about 6 months you have about a 30 to 50% reduced risk of getting infected. That's significant but it's not great. But they have a much higher efficacy for protecting you from being hospitalized or dying."
Rep. Jerry Nadler: "So do you agree that vaccinating the public to slow and prevent the disease from spreading is a critical public health measure?"
Dr. Andrew Pavia: "Absolutely."
