US President Joe Biden’s team is shifting towards more casual, unscripted events to counteract his poor debate performance but his latest attempt has sparked mockery online.

Biden faces intense scrutiny regarding his age and capability to serve a second term.

Close observers have noted Biden’s speech has lost some pacing and focus since taking office, according to CNN.

During a recent radio interview, Biden made verbal missteps, mistakenly claiming he was the “first Black woman” to serve with a Black president.

At an Independence Day event, Biden spoke off-the-cuff and referred to Trump as “one of our colleagues", before making a confusing reference to road closures during his speech while speaking with military families.

“I was in that World War I cemetery in France, and — the one that one of our colleagues, the former president, didn’t want to go and be up there — I probably shouldn’t say," he said.

“I used to think when I was a senator, there were always congestion on the highways. There’s no congestion anymore. None. We got on the highway, there’s no congestion.

"And so — the way they get me to stop talking, they’ll say, ‘We just shut down all the roads. Mr. President, you’re gonna lose all the votes if you don’t get in."
