The I-15 near Cheyenne was closed in both directions as police responded to a barricaded subject.

In the morning, the I-15 was shut down southbound at the Cheyenne exit and northbound at the Washington exit. Around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, police reported that the situation had escalated to a barricade, prompting the response of SWAT and crisis negotiators. Both Nevada State Police and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were present at the scene.

Approximately an hour later, police informed FOX5 that the subject was safely taken into custody. The police activity led to the closure of about 3 miles of Interstate 15 in the northeast Las Vegas valley.

As of 12:25 p.m., police confirmed the closure of the southbound lanes at the Cheyenne Avenue exit and the northbound lanes starting at Washington Avenue. By 1:12 p.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced that one person had been taken into custody. This update followed a statement indicating that the situation had been classified as a barricade, with SWAT and crisis negotiators deployed.

A spokesperson for Nevada State Police - Highway Patrol described the incident as "a sensitive police situation" but couldn't provide further details immediately. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada initially reported the closure due to police activity at 8:16 a.m.

Drivers and the public were advised to avoid the area.
