Acts - Chapter 22 Summary:

Acts chapter 22 recounts Paul’s defense before the Jewish crowd after his arrest in Jerusalem. Speaking in Hebrew, Paul shares his background, emphasizing his Jewish heritage, his education under the respected Rabbi Gamaliel, and his zeal for the Law, which led him to persecute Christians. He describes his dramatic conversion experience on the road to Damascus, where a bright light from heaven blinded him, and Jesus spoke to him, revealing Himself as the one Paul was persecuting. Paul explains how Ananias, a devout Jew, restored his sight and baptized him, and how he received his mission to take the gospel to the Gentiles. The mention of his mission to the Gentiles sparks outrage, and the crowd demands his death. The Roman commander orders Paul to be flogged, but Paul reveals his Roman citizenship, causing the commander to halt the proceedings and become concerned about the legality of detaining a Roman citizen without trial. The chapter ends with Paul still in custody but spared from immediate punishment.
