Life is about enjoying the simple things. Spending time with friends, reading a good book or just finding something that brings sweet pleasure to yourself; in a nutshell, it is about what makes you happy.

With humans, it can be a little complicated; we just can’t make up our minds sometimes! With animals, however, it is far simpler. Dogs love their kibble, the treats they are given when they have been nice and the occasional Frisbee tossed in the park. Cats are even simpler still - they love watching birds chirp through the window, they love their bed and they just can’t seem to get enough of that shining green dot that just won’t hold still!

We haven’t had the pleasure of seeing what birds love in life to keep them happy, until now. This Major Mitchell Cockatoo, called Sammy, is a permanent resident at Kaarakin, The Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre in Perth, Australia. He seems to be fully captivated by the makeshift Ferris wheel that his caretakers have made for him, riding it in circles for long period of time.

“His parents were rescued after being injured but weren’t able to be released, so he was born in captivity and has been spinning on this wheel for all of his 12 years." It is a love story a dozen years in the making and still going strong, apparently!

The Black Cockatoo Preservation Society is a not-for-profit, independent conservation organisation working to conserve black cockatoos through the rehabilitation, revegetation, education, and research.

If you enjoy looking videos of parrots, take a look at this bizarre video of a Cockatoo barking like a dog. Not only does it sound like a dog, it bucks its head while it barks, furthering the illusion that it is a dog. Hilarious!

Parrot species mimic sounds around them to a variety of degrees and for a variety of reasons. Their mimicry skills show off their ability to learn how to behave like other individuals. Imitative vocal learning is also a reliable social display of neural functions requiring good hearing, memory and muscle control for sound production. Cuteness overload!

Given the huge variety of sounds that parrots mimic, a dog’s bark is pretty far from being the strangest sound a cockatoo has ever made. Animal science can explain why this bird is offering viewers a hefty dose of cognitive dissonance when it acts and sounds like a dog!

The cockatoo belongs to a family of medium-sized parrots, which generally communicate with one another by vocalizing in a really loud, annoying squawk. Also, cockatoos, like other parrots, can mimic the sounds they hear in their environment.

These birds have been exposed to strange sounds beyond those of their natural habitat. The viral barking bird, in particular, seems to have either been hanging out with dogs or listening to a whole lot of DMX.

Watch how Cookie, the cocky bird, tries to deceive owner that a dog has entered their household. It is hilarious how this cockatoo has picked up some skills from his dog pal, and well-mastered the barking technique. He also bucks its head while he barks, making us not believe our eyes!

What did you think of this cocky bird spinning around a metal wheel, having the time of its life? What an unusual toy to play with! Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre in Australia, is the home of around 200 birds, one of which is this playful bird. Reportedly, he can spin, stop, balance and again.
