Dateline Disney was an ongoing segment on the Disney Channel that would air between programs that kept the general public abreast on the latest happenings with the Walt Disney Company. This covered film releases, theme park events and updates, Disney Channel projects and more. This installment centers around the 1989 rerelease of The Rescuers.

This rerelease happened because the sequel The Rescuers Down Under was coming in 1990. It's interesting this segment cites the film as the 19th Disney animated feature when it's actually 23rd. This is because the package features of the 1940's weren't counted in the tally because they were never reissued after their initial releases. After this they were added to the tally for the home video market but some animated features, like Victory Through Airpower, still aren't counted.

The Rescuers was originally released in 1977 and was reissued in 1983. It was considered one of the more popular of the post Walt animated features before the animation renaissance that began with The Little Mermaid. Most of the footage and interviews in this segment comes from episodes of The Walt Disney Family Album.

Original airdate March 1989
