Joe Biden has insisted he will be the Democrat candidate for President in November, telling campaign staff: "no-one is pushing me out, I'm not leaving".
It follows growing pressure within his party for Mr Biden to step aside, following his poor performance in a TV debate with Donald Trump last week.
Some senior Democrats are now openly calling fora Mr Biden to withdraw from the campaign and allow an alternative candidate to face Donald Trump in the presidential election.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Sarah Smith in Washington.
