Posted • July 3, 2024: Salina, Utah — Seven teenagers on a hike with a youth group in Utah were taken to the hospital after lightning struck the ground near where they were walking. The group with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was hiking south of Fremont Junction Thursday when rain started falling, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office said. Officials said the rainstorm caused water to puddle and lightning struck the ground, shocking about 50 of the youth with seven being medically affected. The seven were transported by ambulance to their hometown in Salina. Two of the seven were experiencing more serious symptoms and were flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi, officials said. "The rest of the youth were all accounted for and brought back to Salina and have been returned to their parents and there are no other medical issues being reported at this time," deputies reported.
