The Japanese Mountain Ghost: Yuki Onna

Yuki Onna emerge the coldest nights, when the wind howls like a banshee and the snow falls so thick you can barely see your own hand. Her appearance is both beautiful and terrifying-long black hair cascading over her white kimono, her face pale as the snow around her, and eyes that seem to pierce through the blizzard. She stands silently, cradling her bundled child, waiting for an unsuspecting traveler to come her way. When she spots one, she approaches slowly, her footsteps silent in the snow, and pleads with them to hold her child for just a moment.
