Imagine being the reporter who fell asleep and totally missed the Watergate break-in, or maybe forgot to turn on the alarm to wake up to report the landing on the moon? How bad could it be? Certainly, a few reporters in Germany and across Europe had somehow missed it, with the whole coverup that hid the Holocaust and the genocide of over six million Jewish people. It happens. And now with over seven million dead worldwide, at least one former tracker of terrorists, drug dealers and other ne’er-do-wells is getting closer and closer to the proximal origins of a novel coronavirus about which the most trusted voice for separating fact from fiction in the pandemic has claimed that we may never know.
