The Gifford Transport Group hosted a special event on the streets of Edinburgh on Saturday 11th September as they showcased a number of their restored vintage buses in the City Centre running on a small circuit route 17 between Fettes College and the Meadows giving visitors and locals an opportunity to view buses from the last. Some newly restored vehicles could also be seen at this special event making a special appearance.

💡 Question of the Day:

A massive thank you to th Gifford Transport Group for hosting this special event. It's worth mentioning too that a number of other friendly organisations took part in the event bringing along a vehicle or two from their groups. Among those included Scotbus Preservation Group from Cupar, Fife, Taybus Vintage Vehicle Society, Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust and the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum from Lathalmond Dunfermline Fife.

Gifford Transport Group provide Vintage bus restoration. Manyvehicles await restoration which have been passed onto the group by previous owners where the group looks to restore them as fully as possible into their original condition then return them onto the road. The vehicles then will hopefully participate in shows around the UK. This video was tricky to produce, a fairly windy day in Edinburgh though with plenty of sunshine which brought alot of colour out in the shots I took. Sunlight made taking some shots from certain angles almost impossible with direct sunlight preventing me from seeing through my viewfinder and casting shadows across shots. Traffic and congeston also made filming the event particularly difficult.

I always enjoy winging it when recording videos of vintage buses as there was seems to be some sort of unexpected event or exciting part of the day that I try to capture. Apart from deciding on where I think the best spots to capture footage from may be I try not to overly plan the shoot and focus on enjoying the day where I feel I end up shooting best.

I've become more brutal on the cutting floor in recent years. I try to aim for a video length then cut down to that brief and also cut out shots that I feel just aren't good enough. Nostalgia though often intervenes and you will regularly notice some odd shots are kept in which are usually ones I've decided just had to stay.
