Thousands of people gathered in downtown Toronto on Sunday, the long weekend, to take part in one of Canada's largest annual Pride celebrations with Canada Day celebrations. The Toronto Pride Parade was the culmination of an entire month of events celebrating the city's LGBTQ+ community. The event can be described as a symbol of friendship.
The parade began at Bloor Street and Church Street, where more than 250 groups marched together along Yonge Street down to Nathan Phillips Square. The air was filled with balloons, confetti, and bubbles.
The groups included LGBTQ+ organizations like the African Refugee Center and Toronto Pflag, all waving pride flags and cheering alongside the crowds. It is an event about love and inclusivity. This year's parade theme was "Be," which Pride Toronto described as "a statement that says, 'We are here and we will always be.'
At some point during the parade, the clouds darkened and light rain fell for a short period, but it did not prevent the revelers from continuing to dance, smile, and march to the sound of drums and whistles in colorful clothes.
At approximately 6 p.m. local time, Toronto police tweeted that a demonstration during the parade had caused a disturbance and that the parade had been "temporarily halted."
This year, pride was summed up in four words.
"Peace, love, unity and respect"
