Brahms Hungarian Dance No.12 D Minor
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was born in Hamburg, Germany and spent most of his life in Vienna. Brahms was a virtuoso pianist and was regarded as one of the leading composers of the Romantic Era (1820-1900).
Somwhere along the way, Brahms was introduced to “gypsy-style” music by the Hungarian violinist Ede Reményi. His 21 Hungarian Dances were heavily influenced by the themes and forms of Hungarian folk music. Brahms
contemporary and fellow Hungarian composer Franz Liszt was also influenced by these traditional folk music forms.
One of the characteristics of 19th Century romantic music was a homage and incorporaton of various folk music themes and dance forms.
Brahms did not disappoint. Please enjoy the Hungarian Dance music of Johannes Brahms.
