Acts - Chapter 13 Summary:

Acts chapter 13 marks the beginning of Paul’s first missionary journey and the spread of the Gospel to the Gentiles. In the church at Antioch, the Holy Spirit sets apart Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for a special mission. They are commissioned and sent out, traveling first to Cyprus, where they proclaim the word of God in Jewish synagogues. In Paphos, they encounter a false prophet named Bar-Jesus (Elymas), who opposes them. Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, rebukes Elymas and temporarily blinds him, leading the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, to believe in the Gospel. From Cyprus, they travel to Pisidian Antioch, where Paul delivers a powerful sermon in the synagogue, recounting Israel's history and presenting Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promises. Many Gentiles are receptive to the message, but some Jews are jealous and incite persecution against Paul and Barnabas, who then declare they will turn to the Gentiles. Despite opposition, the word of the Lord spreads throughout the region, and Paul and Barnabas move on to Iconium, filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
