French president Emmanuel Macron has called for snap elections and polls show that the far-right National Rally party is currently the most popular in the country.

This party, known for its extreme views on immigration, nationalism and Euroscepticism, threatens to shake up France’s social and political fabric, especially for its millions of Black and Muslim people, descendants of those colonised by France.

Recognising these risks, French football star Kylian Mbappé has made a heartfelt appeal to the youth of France, urging them not to vote for extremes during a press conference at the European championships.

A descendant of Algerian and Cameroonian immigrants, Mbappé broke the “football and politics don’t mix” protocol, and warned that his country is in danger as extremist far-right forces are on the brink of power.
