All dads will say
These words to himself every day

So that his son
won't come undone
Not knowing where his dreams have gone

Be strong my man
I know you can
Have the courage
Children demand

So make the choice
to have a voice
and make their freedom your command

Lucas, my son
You are the one
That came just when
my life begun

At thirty-two
I thought I knew
about the the way life works and you

have changed the way
I feel each day
no longer can I get away

There is a trust
A father must
show up and demonstrate the way

to live and be
unshackled free
from all the forms of tyranny

but most of all
to stop the ball
passed on to sons to take the fall

for all the pains
on all the planes
our fathers fathers couldn't name

So here's my oath
to you and both
to me and all humanity

I will be here
to show no fear
of things out there
or things in here

within my heart
which you are part
There is no other way to start

each gifted day
So I must say
You are the reason that I pray

To be the man
You know I can
And I want you to be one day

So know I'll stay
In every way
to be father that would lay

Down anything
And everything
Then to the world
we both will sing

We'll be so strong
There'll be no wrong
Our lives of meaning will be long

For you my son
You are the one
Taught me to feel love from someone

I thank you boy
you are the joy
Deep strength within that I employ

To stand up straight
and build our fate
of developing a peaceful state

of love and strength
to any length
separate we are one tenth

of what we could
achieve and should
contribute in a way that would

fulfill our soul
make us feel whole
without taking a fatal toll

On our spirits
Our smiles and wits
our drive to just get on with it

For what I've learned
was what I'd yearned
For did not fix the pain one bit

Now I realise
Deep in your eyes
was a spark, a flame that lit

a fire in me
to break you free
which then also did it to me

Now I don't yearn
to get my turn
to get up on the pedestal

to prove my worth
Because your birth
Enabled my liife to be so full

Of gratitude
an attitude

a knowing if that we realise
the most important KPI's
the seconds, minutes when your eyes

have met with mine,
singing to me
For all of time
You'll be with me
Eternally
we'll both be free
to do, to be
for all to see
loving life, both you and me

For this my son
Is all I dream
Healthy, Happy, deeply seen

within yourself
a feeling that
life will always have your back

No matter what the future holds
The hottest hots, the coldest colds

Storms that blow us off our course
Feelings that foster remorse
But in all that you'll have the source
Of all you need and a discourse

within your heart that you are whole
a perfect, flawed and loving soul
Where hardships do not take the toll
Our forefathers could not control
You helped me climb from that dark hole
Because of you I have a goal
Feeling deep love is now my role
To demonstrate a fulfilled soul
You bought the spark, that lit the coal
within my heart, I can't control
This fire within, you made me whole.

I thank you son, For all you've done
You helped me find within the one
purpose of life, not to become
the dreams of others who have none

Of what we have, I cannot judge
I took me forty years to budge

From feelings of anxiety
that all my goals were not for me

For you I choose a different path
For you to know there is no wrath
Inflicted from the ones you trust
who mean well but don't know they lust

to make an impact on this earth
through the precious ones they birth
who don't deserve to have their worth
affected by spiritual dearth

Inflicted by the dreams and hopes
of genuine but damaged folks
who never ever got to feel
a sense of what was truly real

The truth is all that really counts
is how we feel while we surmount
the challenges and sufferings
that living fully always brings

For you my son
may life be fun
And never ever on the run

from others dreams and expectations
that stifle your imagination
Free from all guilt and stagnation
Full of love, and inspiration
Full of warm anticipation
Of a future where all nations
of this great coordination

between souls upon this earth
Lifted by your joyful mirth

Your belly laugh and warm embrace
Is enough to make the space
around us always feel just right
