'2061: Odyssey Three' is a science-fiction novel by the British writer Arthur C. Clarke, published in 1987. It is the third book in Clarke's Space Odyssey series. It returns to one of the lead characters of the previous novels, Heywood Floyd, and his adventures from the 2061 return of Halley's Comet to Jupiter's moon Europa.

Plot
The novel follows the adventures of Heywood Floyd, a 103-year-old man who has lived off-Earth in low gravity, as he travels to Halley’s Comet as it approaches Earth. Floyd is part of a group of “celebrity” scientists and explorers on a mission to explore the comet.

Meanwhile, Floyd’s grandson, Chris, is serving as second officer on a ship exploring the moons of the star Lucifer, which was formerly the planet Jupiter. The crew of the ship, Galaxy, includes Rolf van der Berg, a young Afrikaner who has discovered a massive diamond on Europa, and Rosie, a stewardess who attempts to hijack the ship.

As the story unfolds, the crew of Galaxy becomes stranded on Europa, and they discover a mysterious monolith, which they nickname “Lucy.” The monolith is revealed to be a remnant of the alien intelligence that transformed Jupiter into a mini-sun, and it holds the key to the future of humanity.
