Cue Ball Optional: Terrier Plays A Mean Game Of Pool

Watching this dog play pool reminded us of when we were kids and had not yet learned how to actually wield a pool cue. Come on, how many of us would just grab that dented, scratched up cue ball that exists on the average pool table and just fling it at whatever color or stripe that you decided was your side beforehand? Most of us, I would bet. Most of us.

Sans cue ball, this little terrier is doing something very similar as he tries to knock the various balls into the pockets. My favorite bit is that he never actually knocks in the 8 ball. There are humans that have a harder time keeping the 8 ball out of a pocket than this dog does. Let’s talk about billiards for out last bit though. Billiard sports has existed in one form or another since the mid-1300s. It originally started as an outdoor game that was very similar to croquet. However, King Louis XI was the first known person to have an indoor billiard table.

These early versions of billiards would not look the same as today’s modern game. There were even obstacles on the table including arches, pins, hoops and other things that players had to hit through or at during the game. Pockets didn’t become popular until the last couple of centuries. The modern version of pool didn’t become popular until the late 1800s and that popularity lasted until the 1950s before being reignited by the classic film The Hustler which starred Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. It’s a great black and white that you should see if you haven’t yet watched.
