The Great Grey Shrike is a cool bird that's about as big as a blackbird. It's got grey feathers on top and white underneath, with a black mask around its eyes that makes it look a bit like a bandit. These birds are proper clever - they hunt small animals like mice and other little birds. They've got a neat trick where they stick their prey on thorns or barbed wire to save it for later. That's why some people call them "butcher birds". You can spot them sitting on top of trees or poles, keeping an eye out for their next meal. They're not that common in the UK, but you might see them in winter if you're lucky. They make a harsh, chattering sound when they're alarmed. These shrikes are tough cookies and can live for quite a few years in the wild.
