Are you an independent working mother or an elderly voter living on a fixed income? As you tune in to the first presidential debate tonight, it's crucial to separate fact from fiction. Let's dive into some common myths that President Joe Biden might try to sell you tonight.

Myth: The economy was already bad when Joe Biden took office.
Fact: When Joe Biden took office, inflation was only 1.4%, gas was $2.39 per gallon, and the unemployment rate had significantly dropped from the pandemic peak. Today, inflation is 3.3%, gas is $3.44 per gallon, and the unemployment rate is higher under Biden than during Trump’s first three years.

Myth: President Donald Trump caused inflation.
Fact: Larry Summers, former Treasury Secretary under Clinton and economic advisor to Obama, warned Biden against passing trillions in new COVID spending, predicting it would trigger inflation. Biden proceeded, and historic inflation followed months later.

Myth: America is producing more oil now than under Trump.
Fact: Under Trump, oil production grew by 35% compared to Obama. Today, production is only 1.4% higher than during Trump’s tenure, and domestic oil refining is down, leading to a 43% rise in gas prices since Biden took office.

Myth: Trump and Extreme MAGA pose a threat to democracy.
Fact: Before January 6, the Trump Administration offered three times to send the National Guard to the Capitol, but both Capitol and DC police rejected those requests. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitted in a video that she took responsibility for the Capitol not being secured.

Myth: Biden inherited the current border crisis.
Fact: Biden created the border crisis with 94 executive actions in his first 100 days to undo Trump’s border security measures.

Myth: Trump and MAGA don't respect the judicial system.
Fact: When Roe v. Wade was overturned, Democrats threatened justices, protested illegally, and even a would-be assassin targeted conservative justices. Democrats also threatened to pack the Supreme Court and burned the federal courthouse in Portland.

Myth: Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election and is an election denier.
Fact: Trump and conservatives raised legitimate questions about the 2020 election. Democrats challenged the outcomes of the 2000, 2004, and 2016 elections, calling Bush and Trump illegitimate. The percentage of liberals believing the 2016 election was stolen is nearly identical to conservatives who believe the 2020 election was stolen.
