Lasse Viren:
A 23-year-old policeman, Lasse Virén made his Olympic debut at Munich 1972, in the 10,000m event. The middle distance runner from Finland was running in fifth place, midway through the race, when he unexpectedly fell.
He never gave and ended up winning the race with a world record time of 27:38.40 minutes. An incredible comeback!
