Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a house explosion on Camrose Bay on Wednesday morning. Firefighters say when they arrived at the scene just before 11:20 a.m., they found the house completely destroyed — with just the foundation remaining — and debris was scattered around.

“It’s basically down to the foundations — it was a catastrophic explosion,” WFPS deputy chief Scott Wilkinson said. “The house itself is completely levelled.” There’s no information yet about what happened or whether anyone was hurt. “At this time, we’ve been able to confirm vacancy and/or searched and found no victims in the adjoining houses… but of course it’s too early to tell. We’re still investigating whether anybody was home at the time of the explosion in the house that was initially damaged," he added.

Karl Lent, who lives next to the Transcona-area house that exploded, said he was blown back by two explosions, and he's still shaking from the "boom."
Lent said the exterior of his home suffered major damage when his deck caught fire. "I heard two explosions," he said. "The first one was the big one, which blew me over and swung open my garage door," Lent added.
Wilkinson said firefighters are keeping an eye on some of the nearby homes that were affected by the incident.
