The DCU's Lanterns has been given a straight-to-series order from HBO and will consist of eight episodes. The series will follow "new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American Heartland."

James Gunn has previously stated that the series will "lead into the overall story that we're telling throughout the different movies and television shows." Naturally, the studio heads have been mum as to exactly how the show will lead into the overarching story.

At the time of this recording, there has been no casting announcements as the series is still in early development. However, the writing team seems well equipped for the task. Chris Mundy, of Ozark and True Detective: Night Country, will serve as the series showrunner, with Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen) and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow) lending their talents as co-writers.
