The San Francisco Police Department is contemplating the addition of robot dogs to its fleet and plans to expand its arsenal of military gear, as per a recent report released quietly earlier this month.

The department’s inaugural annual military equipment report for 2023, published on June 11 on its website, details the acquisition of new semi-automatic and automatic rifles, additional robotic tools, and long-range acoustic devices.

One notable addition is Spot, a versatile four-legged robot developed by Boston Dynamics, priced at $74,500 since its launch in 2020.

Spot can operate manually or autonomously, performing tasks such as inspection, hazardous response, and tailored missions with features like cameras and sensors for heat or chemicals.

It boasts capabilities like climbing stairs, opening doors, and self-righting when tipped over, Mission Local has reported.
