Though they also eat insects, sugar gliders are best known for their love of nectar and flowers. Petaurus breviceps, the scientific name, meaning short-headed rope dancer. The only glider species found in Tasmania is the sugar glider, which was brought there in 1835. The pet trade, particularly in the US, makes extensive use of sugar gliders.
