You're driving a convertible with the top down. Denim and sunglasses, leather seats creaking as you thrust a steady line across a map of the Mojave.

Not another car in sight. No people. No animals.

Just you in a car, tires warm on a road that's seen only barren sun since the burning asphalt took its first breath. A cloud dared to journey the road, once upon a time. Half a lifetime ago, but the road still revisits the memory like a honeymoon.

And now, you're here. Whoever you are.

Sunlight shifts orange. Time shifts forward. Or maybe it didn't, but that doesn't matter. Change has come to the desert, not to you. There is only a motion forward, unceasing.

The sky sings. It sings to you. It sings for the changing of its colors, for the wrinkle of heat left in the memory of the day. Yet this change is as inevitable as it is unusual.

The moon will come to replace the sun.
