A recent discovery in Israel may support the biblical account of an angel of the Lord wiping out 185,000 Assyrian soldiers, claims independent scholar Stephen Compton.

Specializing in Near Eastern archaeology, Compton used modern mapping techniques to identify what he believes are ancient Assyrian military camps from around 700 B.C.

This discovery, supported by Assyrian texts, Greek histories, and the Hebrew Bible, could validate the accounts in 2 Kings 19:35, Isaiah 37:36-38, and 2 Chronicles 32:21.

Detailed in the journal Near Eastern Archaeology and shared with Fox News Digital, the find includes the city of Lachish, depicted in a relief on the wall of Assyrian King Sennacherib’s palace, now housed in the British Museum.

Compton matched the landscape to the relief using early aerial photographs of Lachish and created a virtual map to locate the military camp, Fox News has reported.
