CAT THIEVES CAUGHT IN ACT! - Case Ongoing [June 8th, 2024]

For security, I have placed Wyze cameras around my parent's home. On June 8th, 2024 two female women visited the neighbors' little yard sale. After leaving, they needed to turn around to leave the trailer park. After turning around, the women brifely stopped their vehicle at the end of my parents' trailer. They were likely deciding what to do and discussing if anyone was home.

Luckily, the women then drove forward and stopped at the end of my pare t's vehicles, allowing the camera a clear view of their vehicle. The driver proceeded to exit her vehicle, walk around the back as if to approach the ramp. Instead, she continued to move between my parents' vehicles, while keeping an eye on the front door (just off camera). She then squatted down between the vehicles to look under them for the cats, while calling for them (not by name). After standing back up, she began to move toward the front of the white truck. This alerted one of my parents' sleeping dogs, startling the driver.

The driver then returned to her vehicle to get her passenger to aid her in catching one of the cats. In this case a month old tabby kitten. The women then proceeded to move throughout the area between my parents' vehicles, and their dogs. At this time the other dog is alerted and attempts to get to the women, but his chain prevents him. VERY Lucky Women, for he would have attacked. Seeing the dogs could not reach them, and no one at home was alerted, both women proceeded to move under and throughout the already collapsing porch. This is where they were able to get their hands onto other tabby kitten but not his siblings.

After grabbing the kitten, which you can hear crying for help, both women rushed back to their vehicle and left. By this time, the neighbor has noticed his recent visitors were on his neighbor's property. But due to the three vehicles blocking his view, he could not see what they were doing. And so he stood and watched in hopes of seeing one of my parents with the women. After hearing the kitten cry and seeing the women rush to leave, he realized what happened. After a very brief conversation with his wife, he wasted no time to rush over to inform my parents. For their privacy, I cut their interaction from the footage.

My parents were home but are hard of hearing and did not hear the dogs barking, nor the women calling for the cats. The neighbors also have multiple security cameras and recorded the incident as well as captured better quality footage of the women's' faces. I do not have that footage as I type this, but it will be used to help prove their guilt. Incidentally, the neighbors happen to have the driver's name and address, from their earlier interaction. This info will be provided to the police alongside the footage.

-UPDATE 1-
It's been two weeks and we've yet to be provided a court date. I've reached out to our local courthouse and they would not provide me any info because I do not know the driver's full name. I'm the plaintiff, WHY should I need that information just to get the basic court details of my case?!

The sheriff that was assigned to my call has no additional info. He's also in the dark until he's called to court. Sadly, he did confirm visiting and speaking to the driver before an arrest warrant could be acquired. But I do not know if she was ever arrested or not. The sheriff informed me that the driver denied trespassing and denied taking the kitten. She was captured on his chest cam making these statements. Her vehicle was also captured at her home and matches the one in the video.

The driver claims her "10 year old niece" was with her that day. She also claims her "10 year old niece" lives out of the county. Under North Carolina laws, a minor can not be arrested for the crimes she committed. Because of tis, we may never see the cat again.
