Violence involving Chinese coast guard andPhilippine boats

The Philippine military released footage of a face-offbetween its navy and a Chinese coast guard on June19, 2024. Manila says a Filipino sailor sustained"serious injury" in the June 17 altercation, which wassaid to have involved weapons. Beijing says its coastguard was conducting a "boarding inspection" of thePhilippine vessels, under Chinese laws implementeddays earlier when its forces were given sweeping new powers.
