Kiefer Sutherland, the well-known actor and son of Donald Sutherland, shared his grief with the world via Instagram. He recalled his father's life and career with moving words: "It is with a heavy heart that I share that my father Donald Sutherland has passed away. I personally consider him to be one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never deterred from a role, whether good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and you can't ask for more than that. A life well lived."

Donald Sutherland's career spanned over 60 years and included around 200 film and television roles. His earliest successes included the war satire "MASH" by Robert Altman and the thriller "Klute", in which he shone together with Jane Fonda.
