16-year-old With Rifle inside Shirt Taken Down by Deputy at a Family Dollar Store

Marion County, Florida — On June 17, 2024, While on patrol, Deputy Qubaisy saw a car speeding with an inoperable brake light and a suspected window tint violation. The car attempted to lose Deputy Qubaisy and quickly stopped in front of a Family Dollar store in Silver Springs Shores where the passenger, 16-year-old fled inside the store. When Deputy Qubaisy found him, there was a struggle over a rifle that Turner had hidden under his shirt. The teenager, who is accused of resisting arrest before eventually being detained, was adamant in telling the deputy the gun didn't belong to him.

There's also a backpack that was reportedly found in the car, which had weed inside it alongside individually-packed baggies. In a post-Miranda interview with deputies, the teenager said the backpack belongs to him, but the gun doesn't. His cousin told deputies that the backpack belonged to the 16-year-old. The teen faces several charges in the incident including possession of a firearm by a delinquent felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana more than 20 grams, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and resisting without violence. He was booked into the Marion County jail with no bond.
