AOC: Squad Erupts Against Major U.S. Ally

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress on July 24. However, many on the far Left, such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), are protesting the upcoming speech. She even called the Prime Minister a “war criminal” for Israel’s ongoing defense against Hamas.
Also, the White House just canceled meetings tomorrow with Israel, “fuming” over the Prime Minister’s recent video in which he criticized the U.S. for withholding weapons shipments. Netanyahu is worried about Iran’s growing threat, and concerns about a possible full-fledged war with Iran-backed Hezbollah is what prompted his plea for America to give Israel the weapons “to finish the job.” In canceling the meeting, the Administration is clearly not taking the Iranian threat very seriously.
In the past, America’s leaders usually had widespread support for the State of Israel. You would see applause from both sides of the political aisle for America’s greatest ally. However, we are living in different times as division over Israeli support is fracturing the Democrat Party.
And it’s not just a handful of far-Left radicals who are anti-Israel. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just spoke out and said Congress’ invitation – spearheaded by current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries – to have Netanyahu address Congress was “wrong.”
We are still more than a month away from the scheduled address. However, with so much vocal opposition to Netanyahu’s speech, We wonder how long it will take for Members like Sen. Schumer and Rep. Jeffries to rescind their invitation.
Addressing a joint session of Congress is a key moment for Prime Minister Netanyahu – giving Israel the biggest stage in the U.S. to ask for American aid in its war against Hamas. Israel will be addressing not just Congress but every American citizen.
If the speech still takes place, it will be interesting to see who shows up for the joint session of Congress. We suspect that it will be a full room, and even Members of Congress who are vocally condemning Israel will attend. Remember, they must thread the needle of appeasing their anti-Israel base while at the same time not upsetting moderate voters who support Israel.
With the rising antisemitism we’ve seen in the country, we hope Netanyahu’s address becomes a time for Americans who support Israel to rally together and voice support for our greatest ally.
