"I need my number one bull elephant heading this mission!" Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for an action comedy sequel titled My Spy The Eternal City (aka My Spy 2), which is skipping theaters and launching straight-to-streaming in July this summer. This is the eagerly awaited (really, by whom??) follow-up to 2020's action comedy My Spy, with the same director and cast returning for this next one set mostly in Italy. Back by popular demand, My Spy's amusing dynamic duo, veteran CIA operative JJ and his 14-year-old stepdaughter and protégé Sophie, reunite to save the world when a high school choir tour of Italy is interrupted by a nefarious nuclear plot targeting the Vatican. Dave Bautista & Chloe Coleman are back as JJ and Sophie, respectively. Returning stars Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal are joined in this sequel by Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Flula Borg in this international action comedy from director Pete Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates). I'm not even sure what "popular demand" for this sequel they're talking about? Did anyone actually want this? It really looks like direct-to-video quality action junk, unfortunately.

My Spy The Eternal City reunites the beloved cast led by stars Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman in a feel-good family adventure set in some of Europe's most storied destinations. When Sophie's high school choir is selected for an Italian tour culminating in a performance for the Pope in Vatican City, JJ sees this as an opportunity to bond with his new stepdaughter, so he volunteers to help chaperone the group through the Venetian canals, across Florence’s renowned bridges and into Rome’s most historic sites. Instead he finds that he and Sophie have become unwitting pawns in a terrorist plot that could end the world as we know it. My Spy The Eternal City is directed by American comedy filmmaker Peter Segal, of the movies Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, Tommy Boy, My Fellow Americans, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Anger Management, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Get Smart, Grudge Match, Second Act, and the first My Spy previously, plus the "Heels" series. The screenplay is written by Erich Hoeber & Jon Hoeber (Montana, Whiteout, RED, Battleship, RED 2, The Meg) and Pete Segal.
