Thrust kicks for defense are a great way to put a stop to an attack.
Thrust kicks used for defense are a great way to put a stop to an attack. Its also a great offensive tool to use as well. There are some key points to consider while using this defense.
First, you must bend your leg as much as possible as this is where the power comes from. In addition, the contact with the opponent is right at the solar plexus using your heel and not the ball of the foot. I retracted my heel a little on this one so as to not hurt my partner. Because, trust me it REALLY hurts.
What's the biggest mistake when using a thrust kick? Most practitioners will "plant or place" the kick on the opponent. Almost like a "push away". They fail to realize that this is an actual kick that requires a "snap" or a power release in order to be effective.
The goal is to kick through your opponent. And making contact with the solar plexus using the heel will most certainly do that.
Performed at slow speed for safety and viewing. Any questions or comments? Stay safe everyone.
