Campaigning for the French general election haskicked off, after President Emmanuel Macron called asnap election following victory for his rival Marine LePen's National Rally in the European Parliament vote.

The French political picture consists of the newlyformed New Popular Front on the Left, the NationalRally on the Right, and in the Centre President Macron and his allies.

The elections are conducted over two rounds,beginning on 30 June. The next round is on 7 July.
