Apartment Fire Displaces Two Families

On 6/17/24 at approximately 12:03 AM, Heartland Fire responded to reports of a fire at an apartment complex on Helix Street in Spring Valley. Upon arrival, they encountered a patio fire that had spread to an upstairs apartment. All occupants of the complex were able to evacuate safely. The fire was contained to one unit though the bottom unit suffered water damage. Two families of approximately 15 people are displaced and being helped by Red Cross. No injuries to firefighters or residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation. SMFD will be investigating.
