The Roku TV I just bought came with a large and impressive remote control, full of buttons and presets I neither want nor need. Worse still, the buttons are unresponsive, hard to use poorly positioned and poorly marked. I am forever having to examine the remote to ensure I am touching the right buttons - the Back and Home buttons are the same size and shape located next to each other, for example.

I needed a new remote, a simple, easy to use remote containing just the buttons needed for everyday use and I did not want to pay too much for it. So I went to AliExpress.

This remote is widely available from a range of sellers across AliExpress and at a range of prices. Just hunt around to find the best buy on the day. I paid just £2.48 for it including shipping but prices vary greatly and change daily on AliExpress.

The remote arrived simply packaged inside an unpadded shipping bag but survived the journey from China OK. Inside the bag was just the remote control itself, with no box or instructions.

The remote is medium sized, similar to many other Roku remotes, and seems well made and built to last. It is intended for use with Roku branded TVs including those from TCL Roku TV, Hisense Roku TV, Onn Roku TV, Element Roku TV, Westinghouse Roku TV, Philips Roku TV, Insignia Roku TV, JVC Roku TV, RCA Roku TV, Hitachi Roku TV and Sanyo Roku TVs. It may work with other Roku products but having a IR signal rather than an RF one, it will need a line of sight connection to the device. I can confirm it works perfectly with my TCL made Roku TV.

On the front of the remote control are buttons for TV Power Back, Home, Replay, Sleep, Options, Track Forward, Track Back, Play/Pause. On the front are presets for Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney, YouTube, Sling, AppleTV+, and VUDIU. On the side are volume Up and Down and Mute. There is no Headphone socket and no Voice Search or Pairing buttons.

All the buttons work well including all the presets I was able to test here in the UK. The handset is lightweight, sits well in the hand and is simple and intuitive to use.

If you have a Roku TV and are fed up with the oversized and ugly remote supplied with it, then this would be a great buy.
