Force Of Evil (1948)

Directed by Abraham Polonsky, based on Ira Wolfert's novel "Tucker's People." The film stars John Garfield as Joe Morse, a corrupt lawyer who works for a powerful gangster, Tucker (Roy Roberts), seeking to consolidate control over New York's numbers racket. Joe's morally dubious career puts him at odds with his honest and struggling brother, Leo Morse (Thomas Gomez), who runs a small, independent numbers bank.
