There are two things every little boy loves: remote-controlled cars, and tanks. Well, there’s a Russian soldier having all his boyhood dreams come true, as this specialist got to test out a remote-controlled T-72A tank. The veteran powerhouse of the Russian military was converted to remote control with the installation of special modules, and can be controlled by two operators with small, handheld consoles. Yes, they do look exactly like the remote controls you might get for a toy car, but this has significantly more firepower. They call it ‘Vasya.’

The result is something of a heavily armored drone, able to be moved remotely around the battlefield. It’s unclear at the moment just how extensive the remote conversion is, and what systems can be controlled, however, the tests in the Zaporozhye region appear promising. It’s hoped that being able to remotely control the tank could help reduce personnel losses, or retrieve equipment from the battlefield without the need for human operators.
