This video is pretty cute. We have to admit it. The little girl in the video is trying to interact with a flamingo at a park or zoo. After the little girl makes noises at the flamingo, he responds by letting loose with a big burp right in the little girl’s face. The little girl is very surprised when this happens and steps back in shock. She can’t believe that the bird would do that to her.

So, just for fun, here is some information about flamingos for you to share. There are six species of flamingos four of which are in North and South America. Two species are from the old world with a range in Africa, western India and southern Europe. The old world flamingoes include the Greater flamingo and Lesser flamingo. The American flamingoes are the Chilean, James’s, Andean and American flamingoes. These birds are known as wading birds and mostly make up their own genus of birds. Interestingly, flamingoes are not that well understood. For example, there numerous theories about why flamingoes stand on one leg.

One theory suggests that it allows the birds to conserve body heat. Another theory suggests that it takes less energy and muscles for a flamingo to stand on one leg over two. We wonder what the reality is. Fun fact: The oldest flamingo in the world was thought to be a captive bird in Australia named great who lived to be 83 years old! Wild birds can live between 20 and 30 years while captive ones are known to live up to 50 years. They are a fascinating bird with an interesting range of habitats and abilities.
