Biden scolded for being late, gives weird hug and salute to Meloni

Biden touched down in southern Puglia, Italy to join his fellow leaders for the G7 summit, but first things first, gotta get those gaffes out the way. Things got off to an excellent start when Biden turned up late. When he did turn up, he immediately went in for a sniff of Italian PM Meloni’s hair, as is his custom. ‘You shouldn’t leave a woman waiting like this,’ Meloni said, trying to diffuse the tension, but she was no match for Biden’s commitment to awkwardness. Meloni gestured to the watching cameras, and Biden summoned his best grimace, gave her a weird salute, then shuffled off slightly more briskly than usual.
